Su padre Tom, es un profesor en Vero Beach; su madre, Sally, es dueña de casa… Su hermana menor, Meredith (nacida el 4 de marzo de 1983) jugó en Flager College en Florida… Se trasladó desde Minnesota a Vero Beach cuando tenía cuatro años en 1985… Estuvo en Vero Beach High School los primeros tres años y su último año en Boca Prep en Boca Raton… Vivió un año con la familia de Andy Roddick en 1999… Jugó en los mismos equipos de básquetbol y tenis en la universidad junto a Roddick ese año… Entrena en la Academia Saddlebrook con Blake y Morrison… Tiene un récord de 6-5 en Copa Davis (4-4 en singles) en siete duelos… Es un gran fanático de los campeones de la Stanley Cup Tampa Bay Lightning… Durante el US Open 2004 golpeó un home run de 112 metros en el Shea Stadium, casa de los New York Mets… En 2006, nuevamente bateó en el Shea, pero mantuvo la pelota adentro… En 2006 fue nombrado por la ATP como el mejor regreso del año. 2005 -- Suffered left wrist injury during practice in Rome on May 2...Underwent surgery on June 13...Returned to action in July, but after just three events had a second operation on Sept. 15...

2004 -- Finalist in San Jose (l. to Roddick), Halle (l. to Federer) and Athens Olympics (l. to Massu in five sets)...Also helped U.S. to Davis Cup final (l. to Spain, 3-2) by going 3-2 in singles...Sidelined for seven weeks with hip tendinitis...In doubles, captured San Jose and Houston titles (w/Blake)...

El 14 de agosto Fish perdió ante el No. 1 Djokovic 62 36 64 en la final del ATP World Tour Masters 1000 de Montreal...Fue la cuarta vez que Fish perdió en el tercer set de una final ATP World Tour Masters 1000, incluyendo ante el mismo Djokovic en Indian Wells 2008...Quedó con marca de 6-14 en finales ATP World Tour...El 15 de agosto subió un puesto a su más alto en el No. 7 del mundo...

Extendió su gran nivel en asfalto en el ATP World Tour Masters 1000 de Cincinnati donde venció a Nadal 63 64 en CF antes de caer con Murray en SF...En el US Open perdió con Tsonga en cinco sets en 4a Rda...Perdió con Nadal en SF de Tokio...

Perdió en la ronda inicial ante Tomic en Shanghai (64 16 46) y se retiró en 1a Rda de Basilea con una lesión en el isquiotibial izquierdo tras disputar un juego ante Blake...También se retiró en 3a Rda de París con una lesión al aductor izquierdo ante Mónaco, pero igual logró su ingreso a las Finales Barclays ATP World Tour gracias a otros resultados.

En su primera aparición en el torneo de cierre de temporada, quedó 0-3 en el round robin, con derrotas ante Nadal (62 36 76(3)), Tsonga (76(4) 61) y Federer (61 36 63)...Completó la mejor campaña de su carrera con récord de 43-25.
